“The Bear” has just won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
In addition to Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, “The Bear” was nominated for four acting awards: Abby Elliot and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the Supporting Actor categories, and Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edibiri as Lead Actors, with White and Edibiri picking up wins earlier in the evening.
Season 2 of “The Bear” premiered in June 2023 on FX, earning an A- rating from IndieWire. Ben Travers wrote that the season “…fine-tunes the storytelling, amplifies what’s working, and digs deeper: both into who these people are and what lures them to this life… as riveting as before with added dashes of confidence, consequence, and consideration.” FX reported that the show’s Season 2 debut was the most-watched premiere in the network’s history, showing that audiences agree with critics on the stronger second outing.
This is the second year that “The Bear” has been eligible for Golden Globe Awards. In 2022, Jeremy Allen White won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. That year, the award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy went to “Abbott Elementary,” which was also nominated this year. Other hopefuls included “Only Murders in the Building,” “Jury Duty,” “Barry,” and “Ted Lasso” — many of which have been Emmy favorites over the years but have never won this category at the Golden Globes.
“The Bear” will next compete at the 75th Annual Emmy Awards on January 15, where it is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Comedy Series.
The 81st Golden Globe Awards were held Sunday, January 7 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Dick Clark Productions, which owns and produces the Golden Globes, is a Penske Media company. PMC is also IndieWire’s parent company.
